This pendant has been inspired by a marble Fertility Figure discovered in modern-day Anatalia, Turkey dating back to 5000-4000 B.C. and can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
Its designation as a Fertility Figure suggests that it was used as a devotional object, though the exact purpose and use of fertility figures is a question still open to debate amongst scholars. Could her voluminous yet abstract lower body be a symbol of childbearing?
